Writing

My favorite part of being a journalist is getting to write. It gives me a way to pursue every thought, wonder, or oddity I notice, and to be heard, while helping others be heard too. There's a certain pride I feel when all the hours spent interviewing, replaying transcripts, choosing the right quotes, and stressing over words finally come together into something publishable.

Somewhere in my miles and miles of outgoing (and often unanswered) emails, the rush to make interviews, and late nights spent editing for perfection, reporting has become a true passion of mine. I'm always ready to jump on a new lead (and write a lede). Check out the sections below to read some of my work!

News Writing

News writing is the most common type of reporting, yet one of the hardest to come by and the speed at which you must get it out also makes it one of the hardest to write.

Feature Writing

Features is one of my favorite sections to write for because of the freedom it gives me in choosing topics. They aren't tied to timeliness, instead lasting forever for their human interest focus.

Opinion Writing

Opinion is very different from the rest of the sections in journalism because it is often without interviews, replacing them with research data and personal experience, and allows the writer to share their opinion instead of those of others.

Entertainment Writing

Entertainment was the first section I wrote for while in my high school's journalism program, and writing and interviewing for it is just as fun as reading its articles. The section focuses on current behaviors, pop culture, and anything that isn't a super heavy read.
